An Accounting, Tax, and Advisory Client
Data Integration Architecture Solution.
An Overview
The Challenge
Our accounting, tax, and advisory client needed to streamline the transfer of work between their custom tax systems and their global tax acceptance workload management tools.
The Solution
2nd Watch designed a data integration architecture solution to manage data between the systems, reduce administrative burden, and eliminate redundant data entry.
The Outcome
The result created massive cost savings in manpower, increased employee morale, and freed the management team to focus on more value-added work.
01
The Challenge
Our client’s tax practitioners used multiple disparate systems to begin and accept tax engagements. This caused multiple issues, including:
- No clear direction on which process should be completed in which system first.
- Each tool had a proprietary set of data, policies, processes, and definitions.
- The systems were not integrated, and there was a lack of direction on which process should be completed on which system.
- Caused duplicate efforts, excessive manual data entry, confusion amongst practitioners, and poor perception of the value of the engagement acceptance process.
Our client needed to streamline the transfer of work between their custom tax systems and their global tax acceptance workload management tools to improve the speed, quality, and predictability of collaboration between all tax professionals within the organization.

The Solution
2nd Watch redesigned the data integration architecture to manage data between the systems, reduce administrative burden, and eliminate redundant data entry. Our team did the following:
- Provided instantaneous integration between the disparate systems for
real-time processing of tax engagement information. - Used Informatica’s Power Center as the data integration tool and a SQL Server 2008 database to facilitate the storage and coordination of the data integration jobs.
- Used a combination of Informatica PowerExchange and Microsoft.Net Web Services for integration between the systems.

The Outcome
Our solution had a direct, positive effect on multiple lines of business, including strategic planning, tax service delivery, knowledge process outsourcing, engagement and project management, resource planning and management, and talent acquisition. The technical integration between our client’s tax systems eliminated superfluous data entry, improved planning and scheduling between the client’s global tax practices, and elevated data integrity. The result created massive cost savings in manpower, increased employee morale, and freed the management team to focus on more value-added work.
